NOT SHOTS!!

Isaac had his doctor appointment yesterday and the poor lil boy had to have his 5 shots! Two in each thigh and one oral! Plus we gave him Tylenol for the 1st time and he shudders at it! The oral shot was a new experience too b/c the liquid was cold and he's never taken anything cold before! He was such a good boy! After the nurse administered the first shot, Matt and I looked at each other and just wanted to take them for him! We now understand the meaning, "This is going to hurt me more than it's going to hurt you!" (Yea us! Welcome to parenthood!)

Isaac now weighs 10lbs 12oz and is 22 inches long! Here are a few pics of our growin boy!

'Okay Mommy! Enough pictures! Now please change me, I stinky!'

We hope you have a great weekend and enjoy the beautiful day that the Lord has made-Isaac and I have prayed for you today & just want you to know you are thought of.

BIG Smile

Monday morning

Isaac sleeping so peacefully in his cradle

And he's AWAKE!

After he woke up from his morning nap, I started talking to Isaac and he was cooing and making all of these sweet noises back at me and so I took my cell phone out (b/c camera batteries had died) and got 2 great snapshots...

My sweet boy!

This was taken last night before bed....He likes to move around alot & dance while listening to his rainforest music box!

After mommy's dr. appointment today

The Doctor said that i'm 'practically' back to normal and that my stiches are gone. Isaac was so good while I was being examined. All of the nurses and dr. Wilstrup thought he was adorable and looked to handsome in his hoodie =) He's getting soooo big!! He will be 6 weeks tomorrow (wow) and i'll post after his dr. visit on Thursday...Don't tell him but he's gotta get 5 shots =(

The Curse of the Plungie-bulb thingie

My poor baby is sooooo stuffy! The Doctor was explaining to me that babies breathe through their noses and often can become stuffy even if the smallest amount of fluids (formula from spitting up or snot) gets in their nasal passage. Poor Isaac! He sounds pathetic! I've had to use the aspirator a bunch and he is so good about it but, lets face it, who in their right mind enjoys something being stuck up their nose and sucked out?! Its enough to make him cough and fuss and it doesn't always seem like its effective...but we do it anyway because it helps...
Tonight we are going to try using the humidifier to hopefully relieve some of his stuffyness!

Isaac's thumb discovery

Isaac has discovered how to suck his thumb! It really is very adorable looking! He did it once and that was it...until...

This past Thursday, Isaac went to the Dr for his 4 week checkup! He now weighs 8lbs 14oz and is 21 7/8 inches long! My growin' boy! He also had to get a shot =( but was so good! He let out the longest, single cry (i was like, BREATHE child) accompanied by big crocodile tears and after that, was over it. I was in the middle of telling Dr. Theilhelm of Isaac's new thumb discovery when we heard smacking noises. We looked down and he had his thumb plopped in his mouth! Little show-off!

We have been totally enjoying each other! Wednesday, I took Isaac to Crane's Roost Park (my first time taking him out without Matt!) so he could have his first playdate with his friend Abbie! (check out their site, www.dexerstudios.com/family) We had a wonderful time during our picnic lunch by the fountain and walk around the lake! It was sunny and breezy; a perfect day!

We also visited Daddy at his work! Isaac was able to see the greenhouse for the first time! Daddy showed us all his plants and the girls who work there were excited to meet Isaac. We can't wait until Isaac can fit into the onesie Grandpa Larry and Grandma Chris made him!

On Saturday we spent the morning at Great-grandmommy and Great-grandaddy Johnson's river house! Mimi was there and all took turns holding and playing and taking pictures with Isaac. We had lunch and went for a walk down their street! The weather was gorgeous and we enjoyed our visit very much!

It was a wonderful week and we are so blessed to have so much!

gotta go...

Our Weekend

Friday, Matt and I had our first 'Night out without Isaac'! Grandma Chris and Grandpa Larry were kind enough to watch Isaac while Matt and I got some much needed time together! Matt came home with a bundle of beautiful orchids for me! It was such a sweet gesture! We had dinner at Carrabas--Their food is always fabulous! Matt got the Mahi (which was really good!) and I had the chicken. Then we went to Babies R Us and Target for a few things-- It was so nice to spend some alone time with each other.

We also had some visitors this weekend! Steph's mom and brother stopped by as well as Great-grandparents Billy & JoAnn and great-uncle Frankie!

On Sunday, we made another trip out to a park! This one was in Wekiva! It was nice to get some fresh air and the weather was beautiful! Isaac got some sun but was unaware of it as he slept the whole time =)

These are a few photos of our weekend...

My Chunky Monkey

We went to the Dr. yesterday for Isaac's weight check--They just wanted to make sure he was getting enough to eat. Last week they were a little worried...I had been having trouble filling him up AND pumping in order to store up for when i go back to work--That's A LOT of MILK! Isaac had been wanting to eat SO MUCH & cried unless I fed him often, I just assumed he wasn't getting enough. When we brought him home from the hospital, he would go an average 4hrs without complaining to eat and i made sure to fill him up when he was hungry...but lately it's more like an average of every 2-3hrs with some 'snacking' in between. We soon found out he's just a hungry man and luckily breastfeeding is like- 'supply and demand'- (given a few days for my body to adjust, if he needs it, it will come)

A good solid average for baby is gaining 1 ounce a day. Our last visit Isaac weighed 7lbs 8oz. Yesterday he weighed 8lbs 5oz!!!! THAT'S 13oz IN 6 DAYS!!! My son has eaten double whats normal! My lil porker! (No wonder mommy is sore!)

Dr. Theilhelm and Miss _____ (the nurse--I forgot her name...) were so funny! It was supposed to be a 'nurse checkup' but she was so excited she went and told Dr. Theilhelm who came out to visit & congratulate us. They were impressed that he gained so much in such a short time. I had been so frustrated thinking his 'feeding fussiness' was b/c i wasn't making enough milk but they simply explained that he was just honestly hungry more often and not to be surprised if he wants more and that its actually ok and normal to supplement with formula if need be. ITS ALL A LEARNING GAME! They were impressed with how he's growing and seemed to truly care about our family.

We are so blessed to have so much. I love my life & don't get me wrong, am thankful for how God has enriched my life but honestly its been hard. I have been dealing with some 'baby blues' issues and really struggling with just a overwhelming sense of invisibility...Its hard to explain what i'm feeling and i don't understand the hormonal imbalance going on but i just want to cry out, "I'm right here!" and after stepping back- no matter how colicky Isaac is or how utterly exhausted I am or how hopeless I feel, the Lord hasn't left me. He is there. Isaac eventually stops crying, the late evening arrives and sleep (no matter how small the amount) comes. Forgive me Lord. It's then I have to smile and marvel at how happy we are and how much we truly have and that my Jesus is right there--and has been--holding my hand the whole time.

Playtime!

Isaac slept so well last night and his gas wasn't too terrible! yea! I've been watching what I eat so it doesn't effect him so much and we've been giving him mylacon drops BEFORE he eats so they have a chance to work!

He is such a happy baby! LOVES to look around and watch the ceiling fans! He's gaining a lot of weight and always enjoys to eat! HE loves to STRETCH! He'd rather be warm than cool (that's our true Florida boy!) and fusses the SECOND his diaper is dirty. He doesn't like to be swaddled tight but doesn't mind wearing his hat. He loves to feel things with his hands (he's got some long fingers!) and purses his lips a lot. We love to rub his soft feet and curly toes (again, he takes after daddy's big feet! Our boy is gonna be tall) He hiccups and sneezes a lot (which we find absolutely adorable!) and can lift and hold his head up!Isaac is a great sleeper-- He's asleep right now in one of my arms as i'm attempting to type with one hand (with much difficulty)...He sleeps in his crib at night which Grandpa Larry MADE for him!! It was our Christmas present and is sooo BEAUTIFUL!! Grandpa Larry made it match our bedroom furnature! Make sure you see it when you visit us! Isaac loves sleeping on his side in it!

I have a wonderful breast pump and have introduced a bottle (about one, every other day) which at first he slugged down...its a lot easier getting milk out of a bottle!! But he soon realized to stop and slow down, after his cheeks were full, it was dribbling down his face and it was too much to swallow...He is very good at telling the difference between a bottle, a passie and mommy! You can't fool this child...

He loves his swing and i think will become an awesome volleyball enthusiast...thus the reason for the following pics...

Favorite SUPERBOWL commercials

We hate gas...

Sorry its been a while since our last post but we've been BUSY!! My poor lil boy isn't as quiet as he was the first week home from the hospital but we can blame stupid GAS for that! He can get so uncomfortable! I feel so bad for him---You can tell it hurts him; he pulls his legs up, grunts and gasps, just irritated...Poor lil thing! We have been giving him Mylacon drops and trying to make him as comfy as possible, moving him so he can get some relief...I'm calling a lactation specialist today to get some advice...Other than that, he is such a good boy--His 2 week Dr visit went well; he's growing and healthy! He is moving very well and is SO ALERT! He can lift his head and has pretty good control and has turned over from his belly to his back a few times! What a big boy!

We've enjoyed our visitors! Last Saturday, our good friends Brad and Nina drove from Tampa to see us! They brought us breakfast and their new lil puppy Rudy to to play with Lucy! She was so cute! It was so kind of them to take the time to come by!

Yesterday, Daddy took us to Cypress Grove Park to walk around and have a picnic lunch! It was so beautiful and relaxing! We had a wonderful time! Unfortunately, when we got there, we started to take pictures ( I had us all match and was looking forward to getting some family photos) the dumb camera WOULDN'T WORK! I don't want to talk about that though (urg)

Here are some pics of the boys around the house...

My first bath!

My umbilical cord fell off Saturday morning (1/24) so now we can have a real bath! I'm a trooper but don't really enjoy being wet yet...I will though; Mom says I'm going to be a swimmer, just like her =)

Isaac's Story

Tuesday, January 13, 2009
I had a doctors appointment and my grandparents decided to go with me that day. It was so nice of them to take me. Dr. Logan was surprised to see me and said, "You haven't had that baby yet?!" She examined me and i wasn't quite a confident 2cm...UGH! I thought, dilation is taking forever! After my appointment, we went to Long's Christian Bookstore b/c my Grandmommy wanted a new bible. In the store my tummy started feeling funny and I was getting a few cramps every now and then which i chalked up to the exam or an on-coming upset stomach. Later that night, we went to the Metzler's for dinner and my cramps were coming a little more steadily. I didn't tell anyone but I began to watch the clock for consistency...'I think I'm losing it' I thought, these are pretty consistent!

Before bed, Matt gave me some meds for my 'upset' tum.

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

At 2am, I sat straight up in bed. OUCH!!!! The pain was strong and different than anything I've felt before. I got into many different positions, trying to find relief. Nothing. I got into a hot bath. Nothing. (although the water helped calm my nerves) Matt ran to Walmart and brought back some meds he thought would help my "upset stomach". My 'slow dancing', 'partner leans' and 'pelvic tilts' were proving worthless! OOOUCHH! Matt jumped on the computer and I was reviewing my childbirth class notes, even though I knew I was in labor, trying to decide if 'this was it'...

At 6am, I looked at him and said, we're going to the hospital. After throwing a few loose things into our already packed bags, I said bye and gave kisses to Lucy (she had been so sweet during the last couple of months during my pregnancy, always laying by me and seeming to know something was up) and we were off.

At 6:30am, I was checked into Triage at Winnie Palmer. They took my vitals and saw that I was not being dramatic, this pain was no picnic. They took me into a room by myself and asked me questions (which is what you want to do when you're in labor!) "Yes i feel safe at home...No I'm not afraid of my husband..." (but i just may give YOU something to be afraid of if you don't stop quizzing me and get me some pain medication...)

7:00am- I was taken to a triage room and put on monitors that measure baby's heartbeat & my contractions. Now, I'm rolling from one side to the other-Nothing is comfortable and the bed they put you on is small and narrow when all I wanted to do was curl up and cry, there just wasn't room to be totally on your side. They propped me somewhat b/c they don't want you flat on your back-not good for baby-but my tummy had no support and everything was hurting. This was the longest part of my day. Laying on this small, table, cold and in lots of pain. I was shivering violently all over, mostly from nerves. Matt called our parents to let them know what was going on but at this point, I hadn't been admitted and we were waiting to see if they were going to send me home (which Matt thought) or let us stay.

7:30am- Cherry (our nurse!) came in and said, "Well honey, you're gonna have this baby today!" Matt and I looked at each other...our baby was coming TODAY. wow. I even managed to smile and laugh at this...but not for long...next contraction. They hooked me up to an IV-- EWW (This was my first fear of the whole hospital experience, shortly followed by the epidural and pushing him out!) I took it like a champ and soon (but not soon enough) they brought in a wheelchair and took me to the 2nd floor--my labor and delivery room!

As soon as I was settled in, I took in everything. The room was huge, with tall ceilings and floor to ceiling windows (which made me feel so comfortable to be able to see so much outside--I kept saying, "Its a beautiful day!") It had all of the modern conveniences, marble tub and shower, granite sink, dark hardwood floors, huge paintings, flat screen and leather recliner. The incubator and area to weigh and measure the baby was in the room (so they didn't have to whisk him away after delivery) but covered by huge dark wooden armories. It was gorgeous in there! OOOOOUUUUCCCHH!! Another contraction. Then the Dr came in- We loved him! Dr. Wilstrup. He was so informative and sweet and calming. (Unfortunately, b/c Isaac took to long to come out, he isn't the one who actually delivered Isaac) He checked me and decided to break my water (which Isaac has a huge cut from on his head) and b/c Isaac was so low in the canal, my water never gushed until i sat up for my epidural! ANd at a good 2cm saw the amount of pain I was in and said I could have my epidural if i wanted it...BRING IT ON. The epidural lady had to come in and explain the risks and i had to sign something, yadda yadda yadda...and then the anesthesiologist came in. I had to sit, curled over a pillow and Matt sat in front of me and held my knees (I was scared about this part) They gave me a numbing shot which was the worst part. I flinched. She had to do it again. Then I flinched a second time...oops =) But it was tender and after that, the catheter was a breeze. It felt soooo weird!! They told me I would feel a cold breeze through my shoulder b/c the medication had been in the refrigerator--It was too weird. But ohhh, the epidural was wonderful and i settled in for a longgg day...

At first, it was wonderful. My family started to drop in to see us and i couldn't feel the pain of my contractions...just that they were happening. I couldn't eat or drink ANYTHING, not even chew gum but my ice chips were wonderful!!! (We want a ice maker that does ice like that--like Sonic's ice pellets) I watched Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian and chatted with family and Jenny who stopped by to see me after work. Now it's 2pm and I'm feeling really tired. I couldn't keep my eyes open and tried to rest.

I progressed slowly. So slow in fact that they had to give me a pitosin drip in my IV to speed things along. Then the contractions were harder. They had a time getting a good reading on the monitors i was hooked up to. Things aren't so rosy now. I am hurting! A new Dr came in around 6pm and I started to feel desparate. My epidural wasn't as strong b/c the amount of pitosin and they had to up my meds. It was a game of back and fourth. People were in and out constantly and Dr.D'Heureux-Jones (yeah, thats her name) wasn't hopeful. She said I had been stuck at 6 cm for a long time and if I didn't progress in the next hour, we were talking C-Section. Ummm no. I didn't want a c-section! I wanted to see this labor thing through and now became sad b/c there is nothing I can do to make myself dilate any quicker! Well the good Lord heard my plea b/c in the next hour and a half (the hardest & most painful labor) I progressed from 6cm to a full 10cm!!! The nurse came in to check and she didn't say anything for a while and then was like, "sweetheart, your at 10! I'm going to get the doctor and we can start pushing!" We were overjoyed...but now was my last fear, pushing him out!

I pushed for 30 mins and all that was happening was i was out of breath and my mouth was so parched, i couldn't swallow. The nurse then took a bed sheet, tied a huge knot in one end, stood behind the doctor and threw it to me. She told me to hold on, bear down and pull. It worked. This 'tug-of-war' motion was what I needed to help me push. After that set of contractions, we had found what was going to work for me. An episiotomy and 15 mins later, at 11:01, our sweet Isaac was born. I was sooo happy and so proud of Matt. He is such a wonderful husband and although we don't like blood and 'medical stuff', he was perfect, coaching me through it the whole time! We texted our fam and friends, most of whom were still in the lobby downstairs and they were up an hour later to meet the newest member of our family. (Afterbirth, stitches and cleanup took a while!) Everyone was so excited! I couldn't believe I did it! (by the grace of God) It was just all so surreal! Matt & I are parents and we have a son of our own! At around 2am, Thursday, we were taken to our recovery suite on the 8th floor and ordered food...I was HUNGRY!! It was a whirwind of a day, but we wouldn't trade it for anything... We are so excited to be a family and look forward to watching God bless our lives and work through our sweet son.

Isaac is one week old!

We had Isaac's first doctor appointment yesterday and he is doing great! (This is a picture of the pediatrician's office-i took it with my phone.) We LOVE them! Its so nice and clean and his doctor is so sweet! Isaac weighs 7lbs and 5oz! (Almost back to birth weight! 7lbs 8oz) The Dr said he is such a healthy boy and we are doing a great job so far =) She was so impressed that he was lifting his head already and made a comment on how big his feet are! He is so precious! Especially during the day...at night...well, lets just say we aren't getting the sleep we'd prefer =)

We sang 'Happy Birthday' to him last night at 11:01pm as he is now ONE WEEK OLD! Today is Matt's first day back to work so it's just me and my son! (I miss you honey)

Even Lucy is exausted!
